So for the past couple of weeks one of my favourite bands Beartooth, have been releasing new singles including “Aggressive”, “Loser” and “Always Dead”. This is just a little bit about what I think about the new songs.
Beartooth are one of those bands that you either love or hate, there isn’t really an in-between (no pun intended). The same goes for their songs, individually, you either love or hate it. On their album ‘Disgusting’, I can definitely think of a handful of songs I really love (e.g Beaten In Lips, One More, The Lines, Body Bag), but there are also some songs, I will without a doubt, skip every time I hear the first riff play in my earphones, for example Sick & Disgusting, Ignorance Is Bliss, and I Have a Problem. That’s just me personally, and by all means i’m not saying you shouldn’t listen to them. I guess music is all about personal preference at the end of the day.
So another example of the love and hate of Beartooth songs are their three new singles ‘Aggressive’, ‘Always Dead’ and ‘Loser’.
“Aggressive” starts off with the singer sounding quite exposed, very similar to their song Sick & Disgusting. Over all this song just reminds me a lot of Sick & Disgusting- (keep in mind I said I don’t like that song above), -although the chorus doesn’t so much. The choruses are catchy and sound very classic beartooth which I love. So I love the choruses in this song, but the start and versus not so much. I’m undecided on whether I classify this song to be in the love or hate pile as of yet. I have to listen to it a few more times, I think i’ll be leaning more to love though.
“Always Dead”, jumps straight into the song with no mucking around, it’s almost a little overwhelming, don’t get me wrong I love heavy music but this song is a little too crazy. I find it to be a little bit all over the place, I can’t depict a definite structure while listening to it, and all in all it’s very aggressive, with the repetitive lyrics ‘Dead! Dead! You’ll always be dead to me!’. In saying that, there is an aspect of the song I don’t mind too much. Starting from 1:55, there’s a more instrumental part to the song, with the inclusion of shouting the word ‘dead’ every so often. This is probably the only part of the song I actually really like. And considering the song goes for 2 minutes and 18 seconds, that’s 23 seconds of the song I actually like, so It’s best to just say overall, I don’t like the song and I wouldn’t include it in a playlist of mine. It’s one of those Beartooth songs I can’t love.
Now to get the negativity out of the way, their new song "Loser", is a really catchy, classic Beartooth song, and kind of reminds me of their hit song Beaten In Lips. Similar to Beaten In Lips it also has a very personal message in the lyrics that can also reach out to its audience in a very emotional way. Unlike Always Dead, it’s not as jumbled up and all over the place, the riffs in this song are really great, and quote my best friend “make us want to head bang, ‘It’s a real headbanger’”. This song is a really good one by Beartooth and I’m certainly impressed with their newest single.
