Imagine Dragons - Not Today (review)

Imagine Dragons are a band that we generally expect great things from. As they have in fact had many hit songs, in the past and they're just all round great to listen to. I personally haven't meet someone who has actually disliked their music, and if you are one of those people I would love to know your reasoning behind it, I'm generally interested as to how someone could possibly dislike this band.

So anyway, they bought out a new song today titled Not Today. It seems to be slower and slightly more peaceful than some of their other songs.  The melody in it's simplicity is absolutely beautiful.

The lyrics in the song are about a relationship going through some difficulty and how it'll get 'easier somehow' and basically states that it won't happen straight away. I think this is a beautiful message of hope, as nothing comes easily or straight away, especially in a relationship you have to work for it, but it doesn't mean it's not there. Sometimes you just have to work for things. But as much as the great times in a relationship make memories, the bad times do too, as they show strength, growth and progress.  This song presents this message beautifully. I know I've described this song as beautiful a few times already, and I could probably find a great deal of adjectives but beautiful seems to be the most fitting.

So, take 4 minutes and 18 seconds out of your day to listen to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trig1MiEo1s&app=desktop

Let me know in the comments what you thought of the song.

Social Conventions

Today in Literature we were discussing Social Conventions. For those of you who may not be aware of what they are (and I'm sure there's some because I wasn't sure either) social conventions are rules and behaviours that all of us engage in everyday without necessarily thinking about. Some of my personal social conventions include: being polite when meeting someone new, being respectful to my elders, shaking hands upon meeting someone for the first time, especially in an interview, say hello when answering a phone call and goodbye when ending the phone call, telling my family I love them,  and saying please and thank you, are just a couple of the probably hundreds.

We currently have an exchange student from Switzerland in my Literature class and I found it really interesting to hear from her point of view how the social conventions are slightly different in the different cultures.

The first thing that came to her mind when we asked her what some different social conventions between the cultures was, the importance of friends and family. Apparently in Switzerland friends are considered more important than family. She would spend most of her time with her friends instead of her family. And she said that she only told personal things to her friends, as that was something she just didn't do with her family. She said that a difference with Australia was that it's easy to make friends here, you can have a conversation with someone and regard them as a friend, whereas in her home country she would only consider someone a friend if she had told them personal things about herself. See in Australia, we would usually tell personal things to our families, sure we'd have some close friends we'd tell things too but we also would with our families, in most circumstances.

Next she said that a social convention in Switzerland was making a cheers every time they have a drink of something. Her first night with her Australian family, she was having dinner with them and was holding her glass of water in her hand waiting for the family to cheers with her before she could drink it. She soon realised that it isn't something we necessarily do here. Maybe at a party we may cheers before seeing how much we can get down, but it isn't something we would always do.

It fascinated me how different cultures have different social norms, and I encourage you to think of some of your social conventions within your culture or family unit and comment them on this post so we can compare the similarities and differences.

Head muk - 20 in 1 Miracle Treatment

Hey guys,
I feel like i've basically just been reviewing things a lot lately, perfume, concerts, books etc so here's another review to chuck in with the rest of them.

head muk - 20 in 1 Miracle Treatment

'The complete leave in treatment for all hair types. 1. softens and smooths, 2. adds incredible shine, 3. prevents frizz and fly aways, 4. nourishes dry, damaged hair, 5. helps prevent split ends, 6. reduces hair breakage, 7. protects against premature colour fade, 8. won't weigh hair down, 9. detangles, 10. protects against thermal styling tools, 11. helps strengthen hair, 12. adds volume, 13. protects against salt water, chlorine and environmental damage, 14. reduces blow-drying time, 15. moisturises, 16. locks out humidity, 17. defines curls, 18. increases hair's elasticity, 19. soothes dry scalp, 20. enhances natural body passionfruit and watermelon fragrance.'

From the list above you can see that this product is apparently jam packed with all the good stuff that does everything you want to hear for your hair. Whether all of this is actually true, I'm unsure, but there are some points listed there that I can assure you are true as I've been using this product for roughly five months now.

I used to straighten my hair every day, sometimes more than once, I bleached my hair every few months and seriously had the worst split ends. My hair was a disaster.
My hair was quite long, reaching down to exactly in-between my belly button and shoulder. One day when I went to the hair dresser they told me that my hair was just so badly damaged all they could do was cut it off up to where the split ends went to, so I walked out of the salon with shoulder length hair and a very sad face ( I totally cried my eyes out when I got home). A year went past and I'd started to straighten my hair a lot less, and also stopped blenching it, but I still wasn't seeing much of an improvement with the length of my hair, the split ends and the dryness. So that's when I went to Hairhouse Warehouse and asked them what they suggest I try doing. That's when I bought this 20 in 1 miracle treatment for $25.95.

After using it for the period of time i've found that it does soften and smooth my hair, it definitely prevents frizz and fly aways (one of my serious problems with naturally curly hair), it has nourished my dry and damaged hair, helped prevent split ends and hair breakage, it defines my curls, increases hair's elasticity and smells great at the same time. The smell is very subtle, you can definitely smell it when you first apply it, but to actually smell it in your hair you'd actually have to put a lock of hair to your nose and even then it's hard to notice. Personally I haven't used it to detangle, protect against thermal styling tools and protect against salt water, chlorine damage, but I'd be interested to see if it is true that it does that.

I know that there's so many hair products on the market that claim to do all of the things this product does, and at some point I do plan to try new products for my hair (if you have any suggestions make sure to mention them in the comments please and thank you!!), but for now this product is really great and I personally love it.

Top Five Books

Last year I went through a phase where I just read ridiculously, I was seriously reading new book every week. I found it as an escape, putting all of my focus in the world inside a book rather than the one around me. I read so many books so I've decided to narrow the many down and take my top five favourites out and share them with you.

5. The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby (1925) is a novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The novel focuses on the mysterious, young, millionaire Jay Gatsby's passion and obsession with the beautiful Daisy Buchanan.

I loved this novel for the style of the era it's set in and how wonderfully the author portrayed the Jazz Age. I also found the story to be very intriguing, with the lavish parties and the love story between wealth and beauty. I recommend reading this book, even for those who aren't a huge fan of reading as it is a small book but absolutely brilliant.

4. The Mortal Instruments Series
The Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare consists of six novels, as well as three prequels: The Infernal Devices, and three sequels: The Dark Artifices. The series follows Clary Fray as she discovers  her link between a supernatural world; the Shadowhunter world.

I started this series after watching the film adaptation of the first novel The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. I finished the third book in the series The Mortal Instruments: City of  Glass right at the end of last year and I'll admit I haven't had the chance to pick up the fourth book and continue on with the series. In saying that, that isn't because I didn't find the series captivating, I just haven't had the time with other commitments getting in the way. If you're really into supernatural themes, complicated romance and lots of action, these books are basically all that. I've loved every second of reading these books so far, so I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys the three things I mentioned before.

3. Harry Potter series
You'd have to be living under a rock if you haven't heard of the Harry Potter series, but i'll give you a quick brief anyway. Written by J.K Rowling, the Harry Potter series follows protagonist Harry Potter as he discovers life as a wizard while attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main story concern is Harry's struggle against antagonist, Lord Voldemort, a.k.a The Dark Lord.

I've read this series I think three times all the way through, last year being one of the times. This is by far my favourite series of books and I would highly recommend reading the series to everyone.

2. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (1999) by Stephen Chbosky, is a novel about a shy, introspective, highly intelligent and socially awkward teen named Charlie. Charlie narrates the novel by writing letters to an unknown recipient, entailing his day to day struggles with being a socially awkward teenager amongst a very harsh and judgemental society.

This novel was absolutely brilliant. It took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and even made me cry I got so attached to the characters. This novel was made into a film for those of you who aren't keen readers, and the film does do the novel justice (*cough* especially with Emma Watson *cough*). I found it quite an easy read as it isn't too long, but when I finished the book I wished it had of been longer.

1. The Catcher in The Rye
The Catcher in the Rye (1951) is a novel written by J. D. Salinger. The novel is narrated by protagonist Holden Caulfield and is set over a period of three days after he rebels and leaves his boarding school without his parents knowledge or permission.

I can easily say this is one of my all time favourite novels, purely because J.D Salinger created an absolutely amazing main character. It's sarcastic, ironic and even funny at times so all round it's a very enjoyable read.

Skydancer tour

On Saturday 6th of June, 2015 I attended In Hearts Wake's Skydancer tour with my uncle, dad and best friend.  The night started off with us having dinner at a small Italian restaurant as we were all craving pizza. I seriously wish I could remember what the name of the restaurant was because it was no joke the best pizza I've ever had. You know how like, on teenage mutant ninja turtles how their cartoon pizza looks absolutely to die for? Well that's how this pizza tasted. Anyway, so we had the pizza while sitting next to us at a table were these two probably 14 year olds on a date and literally not speaking a word to each other which made it kinda awkward to talk cause we would've been the only people talking in the restaurant as it wasn't very busy at all.

After we ate our pizza we walked to the venue Arrows. We were faced by a line of punk-rock teenagers that laced around the building with a line that continued on for what felt like forever, into a tiny, scary looking alleyway. So that's where we were left standing for about half an hour before the line began to move, once it was moving it went quite fast and my excitement was growing more and more with each step closer to the entrance.

Finally we got to the entrance and made our way into the building. We walked down a few stairs as the venue was underground to prevent loud noise disturbing the suburban area. As soon as we got down the stairs we were hit with an unbearable stench of sweaty teenagers, which wasn't very pleasant. Once we all got over the fact that it stunk so much, my best friend and I made our way over to the merch tables to see what they had. We got a couple of t-shirts each and then realised we hadn't bought bags to put them in, so I put mine over my clothes which later on I discovered was a terrible mistake, because it made me incredibly hot while in the mosh pit, and my best friend left hers with my dad and uncle as they weren't overly keen on getting into a crowd of sweaty teenagers.

The first band had already started before we walked in the door so we only saw two of their songs. The band was called Storm the Sky, I found that they sounded kind of similar to Memphis May Fire. I'll be honest and say I didn't particularly like this band but then after listening to them after the concert I began to appreciate them more. After Storm the Sky, Beartooth came on. Beartooth were one of the main reasons my best friend and I even got tickets to the concert so we made sure to get in amongst the crowd. We were right next to a speaker at the front of the stage, the crowd was incredibly hot to be in for so long without a bottle of water. So if I can give you any advice for mosh pits, take some water with you. Half way through Beartooth's set the guitarist climbed up onto the speaker we were standing next to and then jumped off onto us. A week before the concert I had just had my tragus pierced so with my luck, when the guitarist jumped down his guitar hit me in the head and then as he moved he kicked my ear and my new piercing started to bleed all down the side of my face. I didn't notice until Beartooth finished their set and I went to see my dad to tell him I basically got crushed by the guitarist while my best friend caught him and had to hold his butt the whole time.

While telling my dad, I saw the guitarist at the merch table, so my best friend and I went and got a photo with him and he was the one who pointed out there was blood on me, which was kinda funny as it was his fault. After buying a bottle of water each, we then joined the mosh pit again while we waited for We Came As Romans. I hadn't listened to many of their songs before seeing them live, from memory I think Hope and their Punk Goes Pop covers were the only songs i'd actually heard. Since then I've made an effort to listen to everyone of their songs. It's so much more fun actually knowing the songs before seeing a band, so if you get the time always make sure to listen to the band first, unlike what I did.

We bounced around in the crowd until their song Hope came on and the two of us looked at each other and I screamed to my best friend "I'm gonna go up!" She was shocked at how quickly I had asked someone to lift me up and then throw my body on top of the crowd. One second I was screaming at her and the next I was in the air, crowd surfing. I made it right to the front with hands all over me, and just as the security guard went to pull me over the fence I was dropped, did a backflip and whacked my face on the fence. So my first ever time crowd surfing was a bit of a fail but a great story to tell. We Came As Roman's set was quite long and I really enjoyed them. They're definitely worth seeing live if you haven't already.

After they were finished it was then time for the band basically everyone had come to see, Australian metal core band: In Hearts Wake. I'd loved this band for a quite a while before seeing them so being in their presence and seeing them play live was amazing for me. I attempted to crowd surf during many of their songs and definitely got most of my injuries while watching them. I wanted to make the most of seeing them as I knew I probably would't get the opportunity any time soon.

The skydancer tour was one of my favourite concerts i've been to and I'd definitely recommend seeing any of the four bands mentioned above if you get the chance because they all put on a really great performance.

Black XS by Paco Rabanne

Good morning / afternoon / evening to you all.

Today I'm going to be doing my first product review of a perfume I've been absolutely in love with.

The perfume that I just can't get enough of is called Black XS by a Spanish fashion designer called Paco Rabanne.  It comes in a cute, almost cerise shade of pink bottle with a black lid. That shade may be a little bit off so I'll just include a photo for you to decide on the shade for yourself. The bottle fits very comfortably in your hand, and it has a lid with a slightly, satisfying 'pop' when you take it off and click it back on.
Upon appearance I assumed this perfume to have a sort of musky smell as the packaging looks quite masculine, however, one must not judge a perfume by it's box. The smell is quite strong, so really only one spray is needed and it lasts a while. I just love the scent so much that I spray it a couple of times at once and also reapply it during the day, i'd say the scent probably lasts around 4 hours.

The scent of this perfume is actually quite pretty and sort of feminine (unlike the look of the box), smelling of a prominent hint of jasmine and vanilla, but also a touch of cashmere wood, hellebore rose and almost a sweet chocolate sort of smell.

I got this perfume from my uncle (who probably just thought that the black box with a pink rose looked cool), for christmas in 2014. Ever since, I request it for christmas each year because I just love it so much. I don't use it every day as I like to change my smell up a bit, and there's also other perfumes I love. So I find that a bottle of this only just lasts me a whole year. If I didn't spray it as much as I did, it would definitely last.

I definitely recommend this perfume if you're looking for something as described above. It is a little bit on the pricey side, but I'd say it's totally worth it as it smells a lot more expensive than just a perfume you can buy from your local pharmacy / chemist.

Cute, Little Punk-Rock Chick

Today was just another day of school, a Wednesday to be specific, or hump day as I would call it. (It surprises me the amount of people who don't understand what 'hump' day is, so for those of you who aren't aware it's like the week is a hill and Wednesday is in the middle of the working/school week so you're at the top of the hill.. or hump, and Thursday, Friday rolls down into the weekend). Anywho, today started off just like any other day. Wake up, get ready, walk to the bus stop, sit in a crowded bus with far too much noise, then school. Maths first up went quite quickly as I'm surprising enjoying the topic of matrices at the moment. Then recess quickly rolled into period 3 and 4 of Literature and Art theory. Then lunch time. Lunch time was where my usual school day turned into something much.. much better than usual.

In the courtyard there was a stage and a band had set up. A band by the name of 'Deadfall'. For any of you who haven't heard of them, they're worth checking out. They're kind of a heavy rock band, little bit hardcore but not really. Anyway, it's common knowledge amongst teens that that genre of music is not generally accepted by majority of society.. well it's not that it isn't accepted but most people don't like it, that or they give shit to those who do. My friends and I are in the minority of teens who love that music, so we sat on the steps next to the courtyard and enjoyed the band play. There was this one girl there who was having a absolute hoot of a time. (omg I can't believe I just used the word hoot). She was head banging and dancing around and quite entertaining to watch. I really admire the courage she showed to enjoy herself and dance in front of the whole school who were looking down their noses at the band. I noticed to the side of the stage a group of boys, maybe 15 of them, all laughing at her. And I could tell they weren't being friendly about it. They were making fun of her by pointing and laughing and pretending to copy what she was doing but in a very insulting way. It made me so angry to see this. Then I noticed about 5 of them had their phones out filming her. I felt so bad for the poor girl as she wasn't aware of this, and they could have been making fun of her on social media as well.

I didn't want to just sit there and watch it all unfold in front of me. So I got up from the steps and walked over to the boys. I questioned why they were filming the girl and making fun of her as all she was doing was having fun and enjoying the band. They were so rude to me while they insisted they were''t doing it, even though I.. and all my friends, had witnessed it. I told them they better stop because it was so mean and they were bullying her. 10 minutes went by and they started doing it again but much worse, they got closer to her. And then started standing in front of my friends and I so that we couldn't see the band.

I've heard of stories where people have been bullied for no apparent reason but i'd never actually seen it in person. And while the people bullying her infuriated me, as they clearly had nothing better to do than be assholes, I was also quite upset that out of nearly 1000 people, I was the only person who stood up for this cute little punk-rock chick. Bullying is an issue that is spoken about so much, but there just isn't anything we can do to stop it if none of us stand up for each other. It almost makes bystanders just as bad as the bullies as they're allowing it to happen as if it's okay.

I just wish people would stop being so awful to each other.
And I wish we didn't get looked down on for liking something, whether it be music, books, games, tv, sports.. just anything that's slightly different than the norm. If someone finds a passion in anything, no matter what it is, that is no reason to pick on them for it. Everyone deserves to have something that makes them feel happy. And if you want to be that person who stands in the way of other people's happiness.. well you sir/ma'am are an awful person.

It's time we stand up for our happiness and encourage each other to find passion in things. It's all we've really got to enjoy is happiness.

If you have been in a situation where you've been bullied for no apparent reason feel free to reach out to me. It makes me happy helping others, it's a passion of mine. A listening ear and a kind heart is all someone needs sometimes to feel a little better in a shit situation.

My First Blog Post

Welcome to my first blog post,

I might as well get straight into what on earth I am doing here. So.. I am looking to basically reach out to people around issues that the average teenager, or in some cases adults and kids too, have to face on a daily basis. I am a strong believer in speaking ones opinion and being heard, but I've always hid from actually doing so. I just honour those who do, and I think it's about time I stop hiding.. and to those in the same position, this could be an opportunity for you to join me.

I can not stress enough that this is quite personal for me, so please be kind, and in return I will do the same. I don't wish to offend anyone with my content, just a friendly environment to rant, vent, learn and teach.

I have a dream, well a potential dream to be some sort of a writer or whatever. Maybe an editor, I'm just in the stage of not knowing what to do with the rest of my life. So this is all just an experiment for me to learn more about myself and what my future holds.

I look forward to connecting with you all, meeting new people and making possible friends.

Yours truly,
whothefuckiseh?
