New Page 'School'

Hey guys,
So I've added a new page to my blog titled 'School'. This is where I'll post obviously about school and some of the things I do. But I also plan to post some of my school work, for three reasons.

1. It will act as a sort of internet USB for me. So if I don't have some of my work on me that needs to be handed in, it will be posted on here.

2. When exams come up I can use this page to revise (and so can you).

3. To possibly give you guys a helping hand with different things, or at least try to teach you things.


I am currently in year 11 this year and studying: English (Unit 1 & 2), Literature (Unit 1 & 2), General Mathematics - Further (Unit 1 & 2), Legal Studies (Unit 1 & 2), Art (Unit 1 & 2) and I'm also enrolled in a VET course Technicial Production.

Top Arts Excursion

Yesterday I visited Top Arts in the city of Melbourne. as an excursion for my art class.
Top Arts is an art gallery displaying the top 47 artworks from VCE students the previous year. (So I saw last years VCE finals).

We spent an hour in the gallery looking at their work. Some artworks were absolutely extraordinary. gave me some great ideas and looked like a lot of time and effort had gone into them. Some on the other hand, I don't quite get why they're considered art, as they don't look like a lot of time and effort have gone into them.

After looking through the gallery we went upstairs to a room with two long tables and the folios of the students artworks that we'd just looked at. We had to wear gloves while looking at them, because having so many people daily, turning the pages would eventually ruin the folio. It was so surprising to me to see just how much work had gone into these folios. I'd been told doing a folio subject in VCE required a lot of work, but I didn't quite understand that until I looked through these books. Some kids had filled up to three folios with work. That's not the part that surprised me too much though, it was the annotations. Students wrote pages and pages of annotations which sort of stressed me out, as my annotations in my folio are absolutely nothing compared to theirs. I'm trying not to compare my work to theirs as they are at a year 12 standard, whereas I'm only in year 11. And these students are the best of the best in my state.

We then went to a lecture at the gallery where a lady spoke to us about some of the artworks and how they came together. It proved my thought of the time and effort put into the artworks. It was crazy.

If you're currently studying art, studio arts or visual communication I highly recommend going to Top Arts and having a look around as I've found it has motivated me to work harder in art. Art isn't as easy as I first thought it would be.

School Stress

Today I wanted to discuss school. Which I know I do mention in my blog posts from time to time, but I want to talk about the emotional impact school has on teenagers.

So I am currently in VCE (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's my final years of schooling that isn't university). Leading up to my final years of high school, I have not been prepared. School was a breeze until now. I actually kind of enjoyed it, the work load was manageable and I loved going to see my friends and what not. Now though, school is far from an enjoyable place for me. My friends are stressed out, I'm stressed out, I have homework coming at me like it's going out of fashion and the kids are just horrible these days. I guess kids have always been horrible, but I just don't know how to deal with it on top of all the stress from the workload.

It's by far the most stressed school has ever made me, and next year is apparently worse and I'm seriously dreading it. All this stress goes towards the rest of my life, my future job. And everyone keeps reminding me of that like it's going to make me feel better. The way I see it, if I don't do these next two years really well, that is going to effect my future which creates even more stress. But doing well these next two years is extremely hard to manage for someone like me who's just sort of your average student. I'm also struggling with the amount of time I have to devote to school. It's not your usual six hour day anymore, no. I'm quite often, still doing homework until after dinner time and sometimes I do it right up until I go to bed. I'm just running out of time to spend on doing things other than homework. And some days I decide to just have a break and enjoy myself, but that always gets me behind in my homework which is even more stressful. 

Teachers and parents just don't really understand how damaging school can be to someones mental health, and I guess physical health to some extent as well. I know it's just a short term pain for long term gain situation, but I'm struggling a lot with school, and I don't even know where I'm going with my future, so I have no motivation at all.

If any of you have any advice is dealing with the stress of VCE, I would love to hear it. Because I'm at the point where I kind of just want to stay in bed and never go to school again. 

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there feeling like this though.

Colour meanings

In my art class, I have decided to develop my knowledge behind colours. I wanted to use them in my final artwork, just randomly, but my teacher suggested developing my knowledge behind colour theory so that the colours in my artwork have some meaning.



Different colours can have different meanings to each individual person, by the way they affect that persons emotions and moods. The meaning behind colours can also have something to do with the viewers past, and what experiences they associate colours with. This comes into play when a colour can have two possible meanings, but are somewhat opposite of each other. For example, some people may associate the colour red to love, while others may associate it with anger. Some of the things colours can represent are listed below:

Red - Power, passion, desire, love, aggression, danger, violence

Orange - Balance, enthusiasm, energy

Yellow - Joy, optimism, happiness, hope, imagination

Green - Nature, environment, youth, jealousy, envy, generosity

Blue - Peace, harmony, unity, trust, confidence, loyalty

Purple - Nobility, mystery, wisdom, royalty

Grey - Safety, intelligence, dignity, maturity

Brown - Earth, comfort, endurance, stability

Black - Power, sophistication, elegance, wealth, fear

White - Reverence, virginity, cleanliness, peace, innocence, precision, humility


From studying the theory behind colours, I've decided for my artwork that I want each of these colours to represent a different aspect of me and my life, and how each of these thins have shaped me as a person and given me hope. (The topic for my artwork in hope).

Day in Melbourne

Today I had an excursion with my Legal Studies class to the Melbourne Magistrates Court. 

I hung out with five of my best friends while we checked out some different court rooms with different cases going on. It was really interesting, but at the same time the lawyers drove me nuts with their repeated questions and going around in circles with the same story for hours on end.
It's free to walk into court cases so if you're interested in all that serious legal stuff I highly recommend doing this as it's quite a rewarding experience.

After the excursion we were dismissed to hang out in the city of Melbourne for the rest of the afternoon. Firstly we chose to go to the Queen Victorian Market. We walked up and down the isles looking at really intriguing things and encountered a multicultural experience. None of my friends actually bought anything at the market but it was still fun to walk around and look at everything.

After the market we caught a train to Richmond and went to a shop called 24hundred. This shop is sort of the equivalent to the shop Hot Topic. It's just much smaller and there's only one of them in the world. You have to walk down alleyways to get there and it's literally surrounded by no buildings that are shops, I think they're offices of some sort. It doesn't seem like they'd get much business but all the hardcore teens in Melbourne know of it and its away from all the mainstream stuff.
Anyway, so the shops entrance is a small car park that sometimes holds live, acoustic performances from bands, and it's totally covered in Joel Birch's art (he went there and painted the shop front). Inside the shop is filled with t-shirts, jumpers, shorts and cds from a small selection of bands, some including In Hearts Wake, Northlane, Violent Soho, The Amity Affliction, A Day To Remember, Thy Art Is Murder, Architects and I Killed The Prom Queen (They have a much bigger variety online). My friend and I lapped the shop a few times before deciding on what to purchase. I got a t-shirt which is In Hearts Wake, and my friend got a hoodie from The Amity Affliction. After this, some of our friends had to leave to go home so there was just three of us.

We caught a train back to Southern Cross Station and then went over to the Spencer Street Outlet where we did some clothes shopping. By this time we were beginning to get extremely sore feet.

This is where we departed with one of our friends and then it was just the two of us. We caught a train to Essendon to go to the Cafe Johnny Pump. When we arrived we had to ask for directions to the cafe, so we asked these people who owned an amazing costume shop. I seriously want to go back there in the future and do what they do in the movies with trying all the costumes on with friends. Anyway, so it was a 2 minute walk to Johnny Pump. We entered the small cafe and took a seat at a table that was surrounded by succulents. The service at this place was extremely good, the waiters were lovely and we got out food fast. I ordered a milkshake of Butterscotch, Chocolate Chip & Lamington, my friend ordered a Caramel Popcorn & Oreo milkshake and we got a bowl of fries to share. I'd rate my milkshake 11/10 and I highly recommend visiting this cafe and trying that milkshake in particular. There is a great variety of shakes that I absolutely have to try so I plan to come back here in the future. They also have a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu that looks to die for!

Technical Production

So I’m currently enrolled in a VET course, called technical production (The guys there call it 'tech pro'). This is basically just the first step to becoming a sound engineer. We learn about how sound is created and how it works, and we record sounds. That’s basically just in a nutshell what we do, there is a fair amount of work squished into our weekly sessions. 

I do this program at an all boys school, and yes being the only girl there is extremely terrifying.. well it was, I’m not so scared anymore as I’ve learnt they’re more scared of me than I am of them. When I walk  into the school each week I do receive a few cat calls, on one occasion I was asked to marry someone and every single week they seem to think it's necessary to remind me that i'm a female.. as if I wasn't aware, but anyway, I feel much more relaxed once I get into the class room as I’ve made friends with a great deal of the students in my class. They’re the ones who told me that the boys are more scared of me than I am of them.

Last week in class we were given an assignment on the copyright legislation in the music industry. Well I was given it last week, because I was away the week before. My friends have had the assignment for 2 weeks and it was due today. I worked hard on the weekend to finish off the assignment to hand it in today, even though I was given an extra week to account for the week I missed. I did this because I know I won’t be able to attend class next week, and I like to get homework out of the way as soon as possible. 

Last night, my best friend at VET sent me a message on Facebook asking me to send him a photo of the assignment sheet as he’d lost it. Which indicated to me he probably hadn’t started. Then about half an hour later, he asked me to send him a picture of the first few answers, as he knew I’d already finished. I did it because we’re friends and I didn’t mind. But then, an hour later he asks me to send him the answers to the rest of the assignment so that he could hand it in on time, as he knew I still had a week so I didn’t need to stress. 

I am not one who generally gives my answers out to people because it annoys me. It’s like if I have to time to put effort into the assignment, I’m sure you can manage it too. I didn’t know how to say no to him. So I sort of just didn’t reply to his message, and I was slightly nervous about attending class today to see him. 

I guess the whole point of this blog post was to see if any of you are like me and get frustrated when people are too lazy to do work and just copy yours instead.
